“This infusion of cash will go a long way to help protect the residents of Armstrong County,” Pyle said. “This will allow local police departments to have important information at their fingertips while on patrol throughout our communities.”
Municipal police forces that will benefit from the grant will include the boroughs of Apollo, Freeport, Kittanning, Ford City, Worthington and West Kittanning; and the townships of South Buffalo, North Buffalo, East Franklin, Manor and Kiski.
Pyle noted that the grant will be used to purchase laptops to be installed in one police cruiser in each of the identified municipal police departments. The funding is also projected to pay for a one-year subscription of wireless Internet airtime so that officers are able to connect to the J-Net program used to obtain public safety information.
“I believe this will help improve the quality of life and the safety of our residents,” he said. “This technology will be deployed to great effect to help the county’s anti-drug efforts.”
Pyle presented the grant to Armstrong County District Attorney Scott Andreassi, who will work with local police departments to secure the hardware and carryout the implementation of the program.
“We are pleased to be working once again with Representative Pyle to continue our fight against drugs and all crime in Armstrong County,” Andreassi said. “Representative Pyle has consistently been a supporter of our law enforcement officers and anti-crime initiatives in our county. Today’s announcement is yet another example of the effective partnerships he has championed as our representative. This funding announcement will place our officers on the front line in our fight against crime.”
