Pyle Welcomes Penn Ambassador to State Capitol
3/8/2007
Pennsylvania's legacy is alive, thanks to the devotion of distinguished educators like Mark Wyant, a student government teacher from Freeport Area High School, who will serve as the William Penn Ambassador for the 60th Legislative District at the annual statewide history symposium in Harrisburg on March 12, according to Rep. Jeff Pyle (R-Armstrong and Indiana Counties).

"Mark is a true asset to Freeport Area High School and southwestern Armstrong County," said Pyle. "He has proven himself again and again and is truly deserving of this statewide recognition. I've visited Mark's classroom a number of times and am truly impressed with the work he inspires his students to do."

The symposium brings people from across the state to Harrisburg to discuss the ideals of the Commonwealth's founding father, William Penn. A highlight of the program is the annual viewing of the original William Penn charter which is stored in a State Archive vault.

This year marks the tenth annual Penn Ambassador Program, sponsored by the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission. The Penn Ambassadors participate in a day-long series of programs, tours and educational presentations.

The symposium is part of Heritage Week, which is being celebrated March 9-18. Pennsylvania's original charter - signed on March 4, 1681 - is on display at the State Museum in Harrisburg during this time.
